Shilenko Estate in Boldyrevka

Фото 1
In the 1902 directory "Complete Geographical Description of Our Fatherland," it is mentioned that near the village of Boldyrevka there is a small estate of A.S. Shilenko. It occupies only 400 desyatins but stands out for its crop farming, animal husbandry, and beekeeping.

Many years ago, the estate included a main house with a basement and unique ventilation, outbuildings, a well, springs, an ancient garden with fruit trees, a park, and ponds. After the revolution, it housed a workers' and peasants' school that trained future accountants and tractor drivers. During the occupation, the building served as a commandant's office and hospital, and after the war, it became an orphanage, which closed in 1990.

Currently, the estate's territory is not open for visits, as it is home to the sports and health camp of the Belgorod State Agricultural University named after V.Ya. Gorin. To this day, the manor house, which is currently being renovated, the outbuildings, park, and ponds have survived. There is also a 300-year-old oak tree, surrounded by many legends. One of them states that its crown is shaped so that a brass band could fit on the tree.
