The village of Veselaya Lopan emerged in the early 18th century due to the resettlement of runaway peasants from the southern regions of Russia and Ukraine. The name of the village is likely connected to the Lopan River, whose source is upstream. The word "Lopan" means a well in a swamp, and "Veselaya" may have originated from the estate of landowner Kurchaninov, where noisy celebrations with guests from Kharkiv and Belgorod were often held.

After Kurchaninov, the estate passed to landowner Yushkov, and then to Yevgraf Nikolayevich Muhanov, a representative of an ancient noble family. Muhanov, who lived in Belgorod, developed a flour mill, farms, and built one of the first distilleries in the region in Veselaya Lopan. Despite his busy schedule, he actively participated in public life, holding various positions.

After his death, the estate was inherited by his widow Anna Petrovna and their children. In 1899, the inheritance was divided: the estate went to Nikolai and Georgy, while the sisters received monetary compensation. In 1902, Nikolai Yevgrafovich built a new house in the Art Nouveau and Gothic Revival styles, with an asymmetric layout divided into residential and utility areas. A park with linden alleys and a pond was laid out next to the house, and a primary school was opened.

After the revolution, the estate was nationalized, and Nikolai Yevgrafovich and his family left the house, emigrating to Czechoslovakia. The house was looted, later used as an orphanage and communal apartments, and in 1992 was declared emergency. The Muhanov distillery has survived and continues to operate as the Veselolopanskoye Alcohol Plant, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary. Currently, the Muhanov house is slowly being restored.
