The estate of the Lazhechnikov merchants is a historical monument of the 18th-19th centuries. It is associated with the name of Ivan Ivanovich Lazhechnikov, a famous writer known for his Russian historical novels. Kolomna, where he was born, became the place of his childhood and youth. In the era of Pushkin, Lazhechnikov became famous for his historical novels about the time of Peter the Great, "The Last Novik," Anna Ioannovna, "The Ice House," and Ivan III, "Basurman."

In 1981, the main house of the estate was transferred to the city department of culture to create a literary museum, which became the only museum of I. I. Lazhechnikov in Russia. In 2002, the estate was granted the status of a regional monument. On May 24, 2007, as part of the celebration of the All-Russian Day of Slavic Writing and Culture, the first exhibition opened in the wing of the estate.

By the 220th anniversary of the writer's birth in September 2010, the museum complex of the estate was fully opened with the exhibition "Kolomna of Past Centuries." The museum's collection is annually supplemented with memorial items donated by the writer's descendants.
