The Ozerki estate, the ancestral home of the Bunin family, was chosen in 1970 to create a museum house for the writer. By that time, almost nothing remained of the estate, and it had to be restored almost from scratch. This was undertaken by enthusiasts, the Safonov brothers. Initially, a log cabin brought from a village was erected on the site of the peasant's hut, but a few years later it burned down. In 1990, the first stone of the main house was laid, and the restoration lasted 13 years. To ensure maximum correspondence to the original, old bricks and nails were used.

Ivan Alexeyevich Bunin was born in Voronezh, where his family moved from Ozerki to provide their children with a good education. He studied at the Yelets Men's Gymnasium, but in 1886, after coming home for the Christmas holidays to parents who had returned to Ozerki, he did not continue his studies. His education was taken over by his older brother, who was under police supervision. In Ozerki, Bunin wrote his first works and sent them to magazines. He left the village in 1889 and last visited in 1917, when his father had already sold the estate to a neighbor. After the revolution, the house began to deteriorate, and the garden was cut down for firewood during the Great Patriotic War.

The location of the main house was helped to be determined by locals. After removing the turf, a foundation was discovered, which helped define the boundaries of the building. Old trees were uprooted, and young ones were planted in their place. There are plans to restore the entire complex with gates, a garden, and outbuildings.

Currently, only the restoration of the main house has been completed, which is a wooden one-story log cabin with a high gable roof. The house has three porches: the main and ceremonial on one side and a service one on the other. There is no decoration, the window frames are simple wooden, and the shutters are adorned with modest carvings. Trees and lilac bushes have been planted from the house to the pond, and the house stands in an open area surrounded by a neat lawn.

Not far from the house, the foundation of a burned wooden hut can be seen.

A plaque is installed on the house indicating the presence of I. A. Bunin's museum house, but the exhibition is still modest. Inside, there is a bed, a table with a samovar, chairs, and a typical setting of 19th-century village houses. The connection to the writer is emphasized only by his portrait on a lace napkin. You can immerse yourself in Bunin's creativity by admiring the local landscapes described in his early works. Since 2015, every autumn, the festival "Bunin's Ozerki" has been held, dedicated to his work.
