Khalyevskoye Estate

Фото 1
The "Khalyevskoye" estate was designed and built by Nikolai Alexandrovich Kachalov (1818, 1891), who was a secret advisor, governor of Arkhangelsk, and head of the Customs of the Russian Empire, as well as a close associate of Tsar Alexander III. His wife, Alexandra Pavlovna Dolgova-Saburova, was the daughter of Pavel Yakovlevich, a retired colonel and local landowner, who transferred the villages and lands of the Khalyevskoye estate as a dowry.

To the north of the main house were a greenhouse and a large fruit garden (now a school garden and vegetable patch); to the east were a parterre, a formal garden, and a descent to the Suda River; to the west was a courtyard and a park with a driveway to the house (now Victory Park); to the south stretched a large forest park.

After the 1917 revolution, local Soviet authorities occupied the estate building. In 1919, the first secondary school in the area opened here, known as Borisovskaya Secondary School (formerly Khalyevskaya School). During the Great Patriotic War, the estate housed a frontline military hospital.

In the 1990s, due to a decrease in the number of students, the estate building ceased to be used, and it began to deteriorate and fall into disrepair.

In 2006, during the celebration of the 380th anniversary of Borisovo-Sudsky, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the estate, the villagers invited direct descendants of the Kachalovs, as well as the Tutolmins and Golovkins. During this visit, the idea of restoring the historical estate was discussed for the first time. In 2009, the estate and the surrounding area were purchased by direct descendants of the Kachalov and Dolgov-Saburov families. Restoration work at the Khalyevskoye estate and the nearby Pokrovskaya Church on the Lower Chuzhboyka began in the same year, funded by the family of N. A. Kachalov's great-granddaughter (the family of Vera and Yuri Voitsekhovsky-Kachalov) with the support of local residents. The church was re-consecrated on the Feast of the Protection in October 2010.

Major restoration work on the estate house was completed between 2009 and 2014. The solemn consecration of the house and the home chapel took place on July 7, 2013, and the formal opening of the estate occurred in June 2014, in honor of the 160th anniversary of the laying of the first stone.

Now the estate has once again become a family nest, where a large and friendly family of the descendants of the estate builder gathers several times a year along with their friends. Khalyevskoye is gradually becoming a cultural center of the region. Regular activities include art school classes, charity concerts and performances, book presentations, award ceremonies, meetings with interesting people, seminars, and conferences. For several years now, the estate has hosted the summer festival "People's Herbalist," which attracts craftsmen and folk groups from all around. Khalyevskoye has also become the traditional concluding venue for the classical music festival "Musical Expedition," which gathers leading performers from Russia and other countries.
