Yuri Nikolaevich Govorukho-Otrok (1854, 1896) was a well-known literary and theater critic, as well as a writer. His childhood years were spent in the ancestral estate of Tavrovo in the Belgorod district.

To this day, the manor house has been preserved, executed in a modest classical style. It was built, probably, in 1827 and, despite numerous renovations, has retained its unique appearance: high ceilings, a wooden staircase, plafonds, and cornices still convey the atmosphere of an old noble house. Visiting this place, one can enjoy the view of the pond and stroll along the linden alley.

Unfortunately, the unique park complex has not survived to this day. Only individual fragments and the memories of local residents allow us to imagine what the estate looked like as a whole.

On the southern side of the house was a terrace made of walnut wood, and the park consisted of three linden alleys, one of which led to the pond. Between the two alleys, a small chapel was built, next to which was the family crypt. On the eastern side of the house were outbuildings, a windmill, and a small brick factory, erected by Alexander Nikolaevich Govorukho-Otrok.

Information about the Govorukho-Otrok estate is contained in the publication "Information about Some Russian Estates," released in Petrograd in 1916: "The estate of Tavrovo of Mikhail Yakovlevich Govorukho-Otrok in the Belgorod district is 9 versts from the Belgorod station. Land: 650 desyatins, of which arable land is 480, oak forest is 100, hayfields are 40 desyatins. Soil, deep black soil. Wheat, rye, oats, sugar beets, and other crops are grown. Working livestock: 30 horses, 20 dairy cows of Simmental breed, 60 pigs of Berkshire breed, 20 sheep of Romanov breed. Horses: purebred Percheron, foals are sold for 500, 750 rubles. Chickens: Plymouth Rock, Faverolles, Orpingtons, Pekin ducks, Toulouse and Eider geese. Carp are bred in the ponds for personal needs."

After the revolution, the estate was looted, and the chapel and family crypt were destroyed. The surviving house is now under state protection.
