Looking at these ruins and the abandoned park, it is hard to imagine that once this estate was one of the largest in the Smolensk province. It belonged to the ancient noble family of Golitsyn, who invested enormous resources into their residence, inviting an architect from Switzerland. The house featured unique elements of Russian classicism: the facade was adorned with a semicircular projection with Corinthian columns. Antique motifs played an important role here, even the walls were painted with scenes from ancient Greek myths.

In addition to the estate itself, there were other buildings: an office wing, a manager's house, a stable, carriage houses, as well as its own cheese factory. The estate was surrounded by a beautiful park with a cascade of ponds, the bottoms of which were lined with bricks. The ponds were fed by both surface and underground waters. Various types of poplars grew around the water bodies: balsam, laurel-leaved, and delta. In the distance, there was a cherry orchard where one could relax in the shade on benches.

Unfortunately, only ruins remain of this magnificence today, and the outbuildings are completely destroyed. The park is gradually turning into a dense forest. The decay was exacerbated by the bloody battles of the Great Patriotic War. The Wehrmacht soldiers, in retreat, destroyed several buildings and severely damaged the Golitsyn residence. Now the estate only serves as a reminder of the glorious days of the ancient noble estate.
