The village of Kotly is first mentioned in historical documents in 1500. At the end of the following century, it came under the control of the Swedish king, and in 1701, thanks to Peter the Great, it became part of Russia again. After the victory, Peter gifted the village to his associate Prince Alexander Danilovich Menshikov, who owned it until 1727.

In 1730, a new chapter in the village's history began when Anna Ioannovna transferred it to the hereditary ownership of Major Ivan Ivanovich Albrecht of the Life Guards Preobrazhensky Regiment. He built a magnificent estate here, which remained in his family's possession until 1885. The main house of the estate was constructed in 1828 according to the design of the famous architect Melnikov.

In the late 19th century, the Albrecht family sold the estate, and after the Bolshevik revolution, it was nationalized and became part of the Kotly state farm. In 1918, the noble house housed the district executive committee and a village club. The war caused significant damage to the estate; the building suffered greatly and burned several times. After the war, the buildings housed the Kotel school for orphans. Later, the building remained vacant for a long time and eventually turned into ruins. Today, the Albrecht estate is almost destroyed but continues to attract tourists and treasure hunters. There are rumors of underground passages beneath the noble house, but their existence has not been confirmed.

In 2012, the governor of the region mentioned plans to restore ancient estates around St. Petersburg, including the Albrecht estate, but since then, no actions have been taken in this direction.
