Abramtsevo, a place where inspiration was born.

The estate first gained this status when it was acquired by the writer S.T. Aksakov. Its second life was given by Savva Mamontov. Every summer, artists came to Abramtsevo, and some stayed here to live, creating their famous paintings.

As early as 1873, a large "Workshop" in the Russian style was built on the estate's grounds according to the project of architect V.A. Hartman for the artists. Soon, another original wooden wing, the "Banya," received a second name, "Teremok," for its "fairy-tale" quality.

Russian national painting actively developed in Abramtsevo, and the foundation of Russian opera took place here. In the late 1870s, Sunday "readings" gradually transformed into "living pictures," then into amateur performances. In 1885, S.I. Mamontov founded the Private Opera in Moscow, where I.F. Shalyapin began his career.

The performances were based on the music of great Russian composers such as N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov and M.P. Musorgsky, who were ignored by the imperial stage. Artistic decorations were created by K.A. Korovin, V.D. Polenov, M.A. Vrubel, and I.I. Levitan.

Since the 1880s, efforts in Abramtsevo focused on recreating samples of folk ornamentation, wood and stone carving, embroidery, as well as studying old and creating new techniques for making artistic household items, including ceramics.

In the estate and its surroundings, masterpieces of Russian painting were created, such as "Procession in the Kursk Province" (1880, 1883) and "They Did Not Expect" (1884, 1888) by Repin, "Alyonushka" (1881) and "The Bogatyrs" (1881, 1898) by Vasnetsov, "Girl with Peaches" (1887) by Serov, "Vision of the Youth Bartholomew" (1889, 1890) by Nesterov, and others.

After 1917, the estate was nationalized and became a museum.
