Evgeny Nikolayevich Trubetskoy was a philosopher, legal scholar, religious and public figure, as well as an associate professor at the Yaroslavl Demidov Law Lyceum in 1886 and 1897.

He was born in Moscow and graduated from the law faculty of Moscow University in 1885. He earned a master's degree in philosophy for his work "The Religious-Social Ideal of Western Christianity in the 5th Century. The Worldview of Blessed Augustine" and a doctorate in philosophy for his research "The Religious-Social Ideal of Western Christianity in the 11th Century. The Worldview of Pope Gregory VII and the Publicists of His Time."

Trubetskoy taught at the Demidov Law Lyceum in Yaroslavl as an associate professor (1886, 1897), and was also a professor at Kyiv (1897, 1905) and Moscow (1905, 1917) universities, where he headed the philosophy department after the death of his brother Prince S.N. Trubetskoy.

He was an advocate of the metaphysics of all-unity developed by Vladimir Solovyov and maintained a personal acquaintance with him. The Trubetskoy brothers were close friends and interlocutors of Solovyov for about 15 years. In his philosophy, Trubetskoy focused on the meaning of life. He dedicated a number of works to the philosophical analysis of Russia's fate, the psychology of the Russian people, and the spiritual causes of the events of 1917. Criticizing the ideas of Russian messianism, Trubetskoy emphasized that the Russian people, along with other nations, must fulfill a common Christian mission on the path to all-unity.

Trubetskoy participated in the organization and activities of various scientific societies, such as the Psychological Society at Moscow University and the Religious-Philosophical Society named after V. Solovyov. He was one of the initiators and ideologists of the publishing house "Path" in Moscow in 1910 and 1917 and its associated religious-philosophical direction. In the socio-political sphere, he was a prominent member of the Cadet Party from its founding in October 1905, published the magazine "Moscow Weekly" of a liberal-conservative orientation (1906, 1910), was a member of the State Council (1916, 1917), and participated in the church council of 1917-1918. After the revolution, he took an active anti-Bolshevik stance and during the Civil War was with the Volunteer Army.

Evgeny Trubetskoy passed away in 1920 in Novorossiysk from typhus.
