On December 25, 1933, the Russian Orthodox parish in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God was founded in Santiago, led by Archpriest Iliodor Antipov. This became the first Orthodox parish in the history of Chile. The church was built with the funds and efforts of the parishioners themselves and was completed in 1946. The Orthodox church in Santiago became a center of Russian culture: celebrations were held in the courtyard of the Russian house, and the library was gathered piece by piece.

One of the parishioners from that time described the life of the Russian parish in Santiago in the late 1950s:

Archbishop Leonty lives in a simple wooden house adjacent to the cathedral, where his Diocesan administration is also located. The bishop conducts strictly scheduled services daily at the Holy Trinity Cathedral with the support of nuns living in their small stone house next to the cathedral. On Sundays and holidays, a small choir sings, alternately conducted by nuns Ioanna and Iuliana.

According to Archpriest Nikolai Balashov, who visited Chile during the Days of Russian Culture in South America in 2008, the parishioners of the Trinity Church expressed a desire to be united with the Russian Orthodox Church. However, the parish's rector, Archimandrite Benjamin, who is 82 years old, still adheres to his accustomed views of an irreligious and communist Russia. Despite his willingness to communicate, it is quite difficult to convince him.
