The Triumphal Arch, also known as the Arch of Victory, was erected in 1840. In 1836, the Cathedral of Christ's Nativity was consecrated in the center of Chișinău, and its bell tower was built. For this bell tower, it was decided to cast bells from trophy Turkish cannons. However, the largest of them, weighing 400 poods, did not fit in the bell tower's openings. Therefore, it was decided to create a separate structure for this bell in the form of the Triumphal Arch to commemorate the victory of Russian arms over Turkey. At the same time, city clocks were acquired for the Arch in Austria, which still adorn the city.

The Arch became one of the symbols of Chișinău. During the Soviet period, its walls were decorated with marble plaques bearing the names of Moldovan heroes of the USSR and the order of the Supreme Commander regarding the liberation of Chișinău in 1944, written in Russian and Moldovan.

The Arch of Victory is a square architectural structure 13 meters high, divided into two tiers. The lower tier has rectangular openings in two directions and four pylons with Corinthian columns on pedestals, decorated with a complex frieze and an elaborate cornice. The upper attic tier is adorned with pilasters and topped with a cornice.
