The history of the main municipal museum in Tolyatti began in 1962 with the directive of the Executive Committee of the Kuibyshev Regional Council of Workers' Deputies dated March 29 to relocate the local history museum from Zhigulevsk to Stavropol. The museum's first exhibition was housed in a school building and occupied only 50 square meters. Today, the museum's exhibition area totals 2100 square meters, showcasing major historical, local history, and ecological exhibitions. Additionally, the museum features exhibition and collection halls for temporary exhibitions. More than 40 exhibitions of various themes are held here annually. The museum houses 43 collections, totaling 72,086 items. A particular pride is the numismatic collection, the rare book fund, and unique household items from the 18th and 19th centuries.
