Opposite the 19th-century Simeon Church, where a trading house is now located, the city typography was opened in 1879, owned by M.M. and A.M. Shalanin. In this typography, where ten people worked, over a hundred years ago, the residents of Pereslavl ordered business cards, invitations, postcards, and various bills. Magazines of the Pereslavl City Duma were also printed here. Behind the typography building and almost to Komsomolskaya Street, there was a garden managed by the Merchant Public Assembly. The garden had an exit to the Trading (now People's) Square. According to contemporaries, in this garden, the residents of Pereslavl played cards, billiards, danced to the sounds of an orchestra, and staged performances for charitable purposes.

Mikhail Mikhailovich Shalanin, a merchant of the 2nd guild, held the position of mayor of Pereslavl-Zalessky until 1869. His obituary states that his service was diverse: he started as an elder for collecting public funds, then became a council member, burgomaster, guardian of the city hospital, and in his last years, mayor and church elder. His merits were recognized with the Highest Award, a gold medal for wearing around the neck, as well as the Georgian Cross of Saint Nina for supporting Orthodoxy in the Caucasus. Thanks to his wise decisions, the house of the city society was renovated, which beautifies the city and is used by the city duma and orphan court. Grateful citizens decided to immortalize his work by installing a bronze plaque with an inscription on the wall of the main hall of the city duma building. This plaque will remain there forever for future generations. No citizen has received such an honor until now. Also, thanks to his efforts, another public house for the city hospital was built, and new public wooden benches were erected.
