The Timsky Local History Museum was founded based on the Tim school at the initiative of teacher M.L. Smotrov. The museum is now located in a building that is a monument of 19th-century architecture and was part of the architectural ensemble of the market square.

In 1982, the museum was awarded the title of "People's Museum," and in 2002 it became a branch of the Kursk Regional Local History Museum.

The museum's collections hold about 2,000 exhibits, and its exhibition area is 100 square meters.

The museum's exhibition covers the history of the Tim region from the mid-19th century to the present day.

Particular attention is given to the bloody battles of the Great Patriotic War, when Tim changed hands several times. The exhibition features materials reflecting the harsh events of that time.

The Tim region is associated with the names of writers A. Govorov, Yu. Ubogy, scientists N. Emanuely, N. Alexandrov, People's Artist of Russia L. Chernykh, and world chess champion B. Spassky.

The museum is visited by about 1,500 people annually.
