‘Berenedey's Terem’ is one of the most unusual museums in Kostroma, dedicated to the history, traditions, and fairy-tale images of the Berenedey, an ancient people who once lived in these lands. The museum building, adorned with paintings, is noticeable from the road, making it hard to miss. Nearby, there is a souvenir shop and a café that can be accessed without a museum ticket. For the convenience of visitors, a small parking area has been arranged in front of the terem.

The museum halls feature carved wooden sculptures of Slavic gods such as Perun, Makosh, Svarog, Veles, and others, as well as ancient toys and household items, including a collection of spinning wheels and tools gathered by the museum staff from all over the Kostroma region.

The ‘Berenedey's Terem’ museum offers tours and interactive programs for children and adults, as well as photo sessions in costumes. The program usually lasts about an hour and involves ‘sudarushki’, girls in Russian national costumes, who tell stories about the life of the ancient Berenedey people, their understanding of natural elements, myth-making, the hidden meanings of Russian folk tales, and much more.
