The Taman Museum Complex includes the House-Museum of M.Yu. Lermontov in Tamani, the Archaeological Museum, and the Open-Air Museum "The Settlement of Ancient Hermonassa-Tmutarakan." It is a branch of the Krasnodar State Historical and Archaeological Museum-Reserve named after E.D. Felitsin.

The House-Museum of M.Yu. Lermontov was opened on October 25, 1976, although the idea to recreate the homestead of Cossack Fyodor Mysnik, where the poet stayed in 1837, arose back in the 1960s. The homestead, with its reed-roofed and whitewashed clay huts, showcases the life of Cossacks in the mid-19th century. One of the rooms recreates the setting that Lermontov saw and described in the story "Taman." The exhibition "M.Yu. Lermontov in Kuban in 1837 and 1840" tells about his stay in Tamani during his first exile in 1837 and a second time in December 1840.

Museum staff have gathered an extensive library called "The Lermontov Book Museum" with autographs from writers and poets from the USSR and other countries. The section "Lermontov and Modernity" contains materials about theaters that staged Lermontov's plays. The museum has also acquired a collection of exact copies of Lermontov's paintings made by Leningrad artist B. Semyonov.

The results of archaeological research are presented in the exhibition of the Taman Archaeological Museum, opened in 1989. The museum's design is done in ancient traditions based on a project by Leningrad architect V.V. Gavrilov, which allows for the advantageous presentation of unique finds from archaeological excavations. The collection of Khazar tombstones in the museum's lapidarium has attracted the attention of the Jewish community. Finds from the Ilyichevsk fortress provide unique archaeological material about early Christianity on the Taman Peninsula, dating back to the 3rd-4th centuries.

The Taman Museum Complex is of interest to researchers and tourists. Here, natural monuments such as mud volcanoes and salt lakes intertwine with architectural monuments, including the 19th-century Church of the Intercession, A.V. Suvorov's fortress "Fanagoria," the active spring "Turkish Fountain," the monument to the first Cossacks in Tamani, a complex dedicated to the Great Patriotic War, and the settlement of Hermonassa-Tmutarakan.
