The stone Holy Ascension Church with a single altar was built in 1890 to meet the need for a new Orthodox church due to the growing population of the city. During the peak of the Russian state, Belarusian cities were actively expanding.

In 1930, the church was closed and remained unattended for a long time. From the autumn of 1940, the building was used as a warehouse for storing salt. In the spring of 1941, a 5-cubic-meter barrel was installed in the church hall on wooden supports, into which water from an artesian well was pumped. Thus, a water tower appeared in the city.

After the war, the church was abandoned for a long time, and in the 1970s, a beer bar operated here. From 1991 to 1999, the church was restored: a new two-tiered iconostasis, new icons, domes, and a decorative fence around the yard were added. Local artist I.P. Perezhko painted and donated icons of Saint Nicholas and the Uncreated Savior.
