In the nineteenth century, the territories of Siberia and the Far East were actively developed, and the modern Primorsky Krai was no exception in the Russian Empire's desire to enhance life in its distant outskirts. With the increase in the number of Russian settlers and the conversion of local residents to Orthodoxy, churches began to appear. The first monastery in what is now Primorsky Krai was the Holy Trinity Nicholas Monastery, founded in 1893. The idea for its creation belonged to Saint Innocent, but construction only began under Emperor Alexander III.

The construction of the monastery was overseen by the Governor-General of Priamurye, Sergey Alexandrovich Dubovsky, who made a significant contribution to the region's development. Spiritual guidance was provided by Bishop Makary (in the world, Mikhail Fedorovich Darsky). The monastery was solemnly opened in 1895, and soon new buildings appeared on its territory. In 1908, the monastery received a printing house, donated by entrepreneur Kozheurov, and the monks began publishing brochures and books, which revitalized life in the monastery. However, with the arrival of the Bolsheviks, the monastery faced persecution, was closed, and lost all its buildings, forfeiting its promised status as a lavra.

The revival of the Holy Trinity Nicholas Monastery began only in the 1990s, and now it once again welcomes believers, although nothing remains of its former splendor.
