The first independent parish at the Kizel plant was opened on March 31, 1806, at the request of Prince Joakim Lazarev, and its consecration was conducted by His Grace Justin. Several churches and chapels were located in the territory of Kizel.

In July 1860, the construction of the stone church of the Holy Life-Giving Trinity began. This church was majestic, with original interior decoration and layout, distinguished by its large size and the splendor of church utensils. On September 18, 1871, the church was consecrated, and the first Divine Liturgy took place there. The parish lived its usual life.

After the October Revolution, in April 1932, the Trinity Church was blown up. The bricks from it were used to build a building opposite, where the Kizelugol association was later located. In December 1945, the authorities of Kizel decided to build the Kizel Drama Theater on the foundation of the Trinity Church.

At the request of a group of believers, in February 1945, the Council for the Affairs of the Russian Orthodox Church under the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR allowed the opening of a church in the building of the former chapel in the settlement of Obshchy Rudnik in the city of Kizel.

In March 1945, the Nikolaev Orthodox community in the settlement of Obshchy Rudnik in the city of Kizel was registered, and the building of the chapel was provided to them. In April 1945, by the decree of His Eminence Alexander (Tolstopyatov), Archbishop of Molotov and Solikamsk, Priest Roman Sofonovich Zhuykov was appointed to Kizel.

In 1994, after a fire in the church of the settlement of Obshchy Rudnik, the parish was given the building of the former drama theater. Thus, the church returned to the place where the Holy Life-Giving Trinity Church with two altars had previously stood.

The building was converted into a temple, a dome and a chapel were erected. The church has two altars: the main altar was consecrated on July 19, 2001, in honor of St. Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia, the Miracle Worker; the altar of the southern altar was consecrated on December 26, 1996, in honor of the Holy Life-Giving Trinity.
