The Surgut Art Museum was opened on November 1, 1992.

Today, its collection features works of Russian visual art from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, contemporary art from Siberia, national art of the Northern peoples, as well as archaeological finds from the 3rd and 15th centuries and a collection of ironic art, including graphics, photography, and sculpture.

During its existence, the museum has implemented numerous vibrant art projects that have brought it fame not only in the city and region but also throughout Russia and beyond. Among the most successful projects are the exhibitions: "The Firesteel of Odin? The Story of One Object," "Those Who Saw Tarn's Face," "Open Storage. Medium Object in Bronze and Metal. 9th, 14th centuries," the International Forum of Visual Humor Caricaturum, the photo project "Inhabitants," "Return to YAH," and many others.
