The Moscow State Academy of Arts and Industry named after S.G. Stroganov, known as MGHPU named after Stroganov, is one of the oldest educational institutions in the field of art in Moscow.

The academy was founded in 1825 as a private school called "Drawing School in Relation to Arts and Crafts." Its founder was Count Sergey Grigorievich Stroganov (1794-1882), who supported many Moscow artists of that time.

In 1843, Stroganov donated the school to Moscow, and soon it was renamed the "Second Drawing School." In 1860, the institution was transformed into a technical drawing school and received the name of Count Stroganov.

The academy is often referred to by the public as "Stroganovka" or "Stroganov School."

From 1930 to 1945, "Stroganovka" was not operational as it was divided into several independent institutes.
