In the center of the Novorossiysk waterfront, near the sea terminal, stands the fountain-monument "Sea Glory of Russia." This light-dynamic fountain was built in 2006 and marked the beginning of a large-scale project to install fountains in the city. The fountain is round and equipped with lighting. At its center is a tall stele topped with a figure of an angel holding a ship. On April 25, 2007, the stele "Sea Glory of Russia" was ceremoniously opened on Admiral Serebryakov Embankment. It was installed as part of the waterfront reconstruction and was developed alongside the monument to the founders of Novorossiysk. At the top of the granite column stands an angel holding a three-masted ship above its head. At the base of the monument is an inscription: "Blessed are the fruits of the Earth and Sea by labor." The stele is set on a high granite pedestal. The diameter of the column is one and a half meters, and its height is 7.5 meters (not including the base, just the sculpture of the angel and the planet beneath it), with the foundation height being four meters. Inside, the column is reinforced with rebar, consisting of a core and metal rods along the edges, to withstand the strong winds of Novorossiysk. The stele was assembled in parts, as it could not pass through the city's vehicle arches otherwise. The sculpture was cast in Rostov-on-Don. The authors of the monument are sculptors Alexander Suvorov and Alexander Apollonov. It is unknown whether both participated in the making of the stele, but it is known that Suvorov's version was rejected, as his figure resembled more the heroine of Alexander Grin, a fragile girl running over the waves with a small ship. The city administration preferred Apollonov's version, which depicts an adult female angel standing on a planet and holding a laurel wreath. In the center of the wreath is an exact copy of the three-masted brig "Mercury," which was the first to enter the Tsukrova Bay and fought in the Bosporus, emerging victorious from a battle with a Turkish ship. The monument, clearly visible from the sea, is dedicated to the heroes who earned the maritime glory of Russia.
