Melenki, a significant Old Believer center in the Vladimir region. The first step towards the church schism here was the condemnation of the Murom protodeacon Loggin at the Council of 1653. Father Loggin had considerable influence in the monasteries and churches of Murom and its district. In 1677, by the decree of Tsar Feodor Alexeyevich, many opponents of Nikon's reforms from Yaroslavl and the village of Vyazniki in the Murom district were relocated to remote areas. They founded villages and settlements in the 'newly settled' district along the Unzha River. However, the relocation did not achieve its goal; the townspeople and peasants did not accept the new rite. After that, the Old Believers of Melenki and Vyazniki continued to maintain spiritual and industrial ties, forming a new center of Old Belief in Melenki.

In August 1920, Bishop Kalist of Vladimir and Ivanovo-Voznesensk, originally from Tsaplino in the Bezzubovskaya volost of the Moscow province, began serving in Melenki. He lived and served in Melenki, where he was buried in 1933. In the 1960s, all Old Believers of the Melenki district and Murom were spiritually cared for by Father Iakov from the village of Timoshino, who spent 10 years in prison during the Stalinist repressions. In the 1970s, before the church was opened in Melenki, he was succeeded by Leonid Gusev. In 1999, the Old Believer community was given a kindergarten building, one of the rooms of which was converted into a church, while a Sunday school was located in the adjacent rooms. On March 28, Metropolitan Alimpiy consecrated the church in the name of the Elevation of the Holy Cross. In 2008, with the support of the local administration, a project for a new church was developed. Despite difficulties, parish life gradually improved, and in the summer of 2009, the first children's Christian camp took place. Construction of a new stone church began next to the active church. On June 22, 2010, Metropolitan Korniliy performed the rite of laying the church's foundation, and the construction was completed that same year.

Upon arriving in Melenki, Metropolitan Korniliy immediately attended the evening service. The next day, April 5, the solemn service of the church's consecration began. At 7 a.m., an archpastoral meeting took place, where clergy and parishioners welcomed the metropolitan as he approached the newly built church. Then, the water blessing, the rite of consecration of the church, and the divine liturgy were conducted. The new church in Melenki was consecrated, just like the old one, in the name of the Elevation of the Holy Cross of the Lord. The Cross Elevation altar, where the liturgy had been performed in the old church in recent years, is now installed in the new one. Metropolitan Korniliy was assisted by the rector of the church, Father Vasiliy Dumnov, protodeacons Leontiy Pimenov and Aleksey Mikheev, as well as other priests from the Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod-Vladimir dioceses, totaling 11 people. After the liturgy, the metropolitan addressed those gathered with a sermon, congratulating the Christians of Melenki on this long-awaited event and expressing gratitude to all who participated in the construction of the church and to the benefactors.
