The Spasskaya Chapel was built in 2012 next to the administration of Nizhny Novgorod, the former House of Councils, in memory of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral, which was destroyed during the Soviet era. In 2005, a cross was erected nearby. The chapel is located approximately where the grave of Kuzma Minin and the chapel above it used to be. In 1929, the chapel was demolished, and the cathedral was blown up for the construction of the House of Councils. In 1962, for the 350th anniversary of the events of 1612, the remains of Kuzma Minin were reburied in the Mikhailo-Arkhangelsky Cathedral of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin. Near the chapel lies a massive black slab in the shape of a cross with the inscription: 'In the year 1616, the nobleman Kuzma Minin Sukhoruk passed away in the Lord.' This slab was installed in the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral in 1878 at the expense of Nizhny Novgorod merchants at the site of his burial.
