Cossacks began the construction of the Ascension Cathedral at their own expense, which lasted 38 years. Only in 1880 was the church consecrated. From 1885, the tall Ascension Cathedral with gilded domes became the main church in Tamani. During this time, the stanitsa began to renew: trade revived, small industries emerged, and the number of visitors and temporary workers increased. The white stone church amazed with its magnificence. With its beautiful bell tower reaching skyward, it towered over Tamani, symbolizing its future achievements. The Ascension Cathedral attracted a significant number of parishioners from the stanitsa for some time. It was associated with 175 desyatins of land, which in recent years was rented for 1575 rubles and 50 kopecks. Church documents on the land existed since 1796. During the long construction of the cathedral, the Cossacks repeatedly sought help from the Atamans of the Army.

One such petition in February 1854 was signed by retired lieutenant colonel Semyon Lisevitsky and retired army elder Semenyaka, followed by 31 signatures of stanitsa residents. For the illiterate, the clerk Mark Koretsky signed. In August 1936, by order of the authorities, the Ascension Cathedral in Tamani was blown up. Old-timers of the stanitsa, Voloshina and others, told the author about the details of this action. "A non-Christian, who climbed up before the explosion and began to break the cross, was thrown to the ground by heavenly forces, and he was killed. For some time, the church lay in ruins, and we, schoolchildren, remembered Voloshina, walked over them, collecting remnants of holy utensils."

Stone from the church was taken to Vyshesteblievskaya, where it was used in the construction of a cinema. Elderly residents of this stanitsa said that hardly anyone went to the cinema. At the site where the Ascension Church stood, its foundation can still be discerned. Now there is a park here, in the ground of which, according to the stanitsa residents, German soldiers were buried during the war. The area of the park is now built up with various objects, including commercial ones. The period of the flourishing of the "golden calf" has arrived. Literally a few steps from the entrance to the cathedral, there used to be a public toilet, which was moved a bit to the left due to the construction of the "Alexandria" hotel in 2014. The holy place continues to be desecrated, although a small chapel could have long been erected. However, the place where the church stood, even in ruins, still retains an atmosphere of piety and spiritual purity.
