According to the insurance inventory from July 4, 1910, the Ascension Cathedral was a stone structure with an iron roof. Its walls were plastered and painted with oil paint both inside and out, while the columns and vaults were almost entirely decorated with paintings.

The length of the church, including the bell tower and altar, was 18 fathoms, and the maximum width was 8 fathoms. The height to the cornice reached 8 arshins. The church had two domes: one above the building and one above the bell tower. It featured 18 large windows and 5 smaller ones in the dome, as well as 8 double doors. The main iconostasis was 11 arshins wide and 18 arshins high, while the iconostases of the two chapels, the Assumption and Archangel, were each 8 arshins wide and 4.5 arshins high. Their value was estimated at 10,000 rubles. The church was heated by six stoves. The two-tiered bell tower, reaching a height of 7 fathoms to the upper cornice, housed bells in the lower tier and tower clocks in the second. The nearest buildings were located 10 fathoms to the north.

Built in 1779, the church was well-preserved and valued, along with the iconostasis, bell tower, and clocks, at 25,000 rubles. A brick lodge with an iron roof, built 15 years prior, was also in good condition and valued at 1,000 rubles. A firewood shed, built in 1896 on oak pillars, was covered with iron and valued at 400 rubles. The entire church estate was enclosed by a fence: to the south and east, a brick wall 3.5 arshins high and 85 fathoms long; to the north, a brick wall with an iron grille 38 fathoms long, with two gates and a wicket. Inside the fence, there was a wooden lattice separating the garden from the rest of the area. The fence was dilapidated in places and valued at 600 rubles.

The two-class church parish women's school was a stone building with an iron roof. Along Shchigrovsky Lane, its length was 27 arshins, width 13 arshins, and it had two floors. Along Arkhangelsk Street, the length was 32 arshins, width 13 arshins, and the height to the cornice at the street corner was 11 arshins. The upper floor had 20 windows, 8 doors, and 5 stoves, while the lower floor had 10 windows and 2 stoves. The school was built in 1907 and valued at 7,000 rubles.

During the Great Patriotic War, a German cemetery for fallen soldiers was established near the Ascension Cathedral. Upon retreat, the Germans blew up the church. After the war, a building was constructed on its site, which now houses the administration of the Maloarkhangelsk district. The German cemetery was leveled. In 2018, thanks to the efforts of the public organization 'Military Memorials' and the district administration, excavations were conducted, resulting in the discovery of the remains of several dozen German soldiers. They were reburied in the village of Besedino in the Kursk region in a common grave for fallen occupiers.
