During the Soviet period, from the founding of the city, there were no churches in Dzerzhinsk, and the nearest villages had closed ones. In 1992, Elder Naum from the Trinity-Sergius Lavra blessed Anna Ivanovna Stepanova to raise funds for the construction of a church in Dzerzhinsk. The blessing was also given by the rector of the Annunciation Church in the village of Zhelnino, Father Nikolai Natarov. The first funds began to be collected in the church shop located in the 'House of Books.' Then the residents of the city started donating money for the construction of the temple. Three small premises were acquired. In 1993, the community purchased a railway carriage, and work on the future temple continued for almost a year. The first service in the church in honor of St. Tikhon took place on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord in 1994. The department store and the House of Books helped with the arrangements by providing storage for liturgical books and church utensils, the railway donated two containers for household needs, and Alexander Ivanovich Shkilev allocated funds for the construction of a watchman's lodge. On October 25, 1994, a stone was laid for the foundation of the Church of St. John the Baptist. In October 1995, with the blessing of Metropolitan Nikolai, a Sunday school was opened, which was attended by about 20 students on its first Christmas in 1996. That same year, a library was opened at the parish. In 1997, the construction of the wooden church of St. Tikhon and the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia was completed. In 2004, Patriarch Alexy II awarded Boris Mikhailovich Pukhov and Dmitry Mikhailovich Kutyin with medals of St. Daniel of Moscow for their assistance in the construction of the Resurrection Cathedral. On September 1, 2004, the parish opened the Non-State Educational Institution 'Orthodox Gymnasium named after Seraphim of Sarov in Dzerzhinsk,' with 13 students in the first grade, and by 2008, the gymnasium had 162 students. On April 23, 2009, Bishop Georgy conducted the Great Paschal Vigil in the church in honor of St. Patriarch Tikhon and the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia. During the service, the rector of the parish, Viktor Sofronov, was elevated to the rank of protodeacon. On October 14, 2009, a children's playground was opened and consecrated. An association of Orthodox teachers is active, with its first meeting held on October 22, 2009. An Orthodox youth group named after St. Tikhon of Moscow was organized for teenagers. On December 31, 2009, a copy of the miraculous icon of St. Panteleimon from the city of Vyksa, painted by iconographer Alexey Vladimirovich Antsiferov, was consecrated in the Church of St. Tikhon. A relic of the holy healer was placed in the reliquary. In 2010, the parish organized a free bus service from the Resurrection of Christ temple to the Church of All Saints at the city cemetery. On March 15, 2010, the parish library was solemnly opened and consecrated after moving to a new location, with a collection of 9,000 copies. During a visit to Dzerzhinsk, Archbishop Georgy noted that this is the largest Orthodox library in the Nizhny Novgorod region. In the summer of 2011, the crosses and domes of the wooden church in honor of St. Tikhon and the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia were gilded, and the roof was painted bright green. These were priority works for the reconstruction of the temple, which also included replacing windows with plastic ones, completely replacing the porches, sheathing the church with boards imitating glued timber, followed by painting and facing the brick base with decorative stone. The work was carried out during breaks between services. During this time, services in the stone church in honor of St. John the Baptist were not conducted due to wall painting. On September 12, 2012, the carriage that housed the first Orthodox church in Dzerzhinsk, and later a charitable dining room and storage for church utensils, was moved to the Kstovo deanery. In April 2013, the parish received a relic with the remains of St. George the Victorious, St. Barbara, and the righteous warrior Fyodor Ushakov. On August 11, 2013, the interior renovation of the wooden church in honor of St. Tikhon was completed, with the walls sheathed in paneling, and wooden interior details and flooring repaired and replaced.
