In the 18th century, there was a small monastery in the village of Ilyinskoye, founded in the early 16th century by monk Theognost Sharovka, known as Sharovkin Monastery. In the mid-1550s, the Assumption Cathedral was built with chapels of John the Theologian and St. Catherine, replacing the old wooden church. At the end of the 1550s, a warm church of St. Sergius of Radonezh with a chapel of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and a refectory was erected.

In 1567, the chapel of the cathedral and the church of Sergius were adorned with wall paintings created by the monastery's abbot Prokhor and icon painter Arseny, who also created most of the icons for the cathedral's iconostasis. By the mid-18th century, the stone buildings of the monastery, which had greatly deteriorated, were rebuilt.

The monastery was under the patronage of the Vorotynsky princes, and Tsar Ivan the Terrible often stopped here. By the end of the 17th century, the monastery had become impoverished, and in the 18th century, it was annexed to the Moscow Don Monastery. In 1764, the monastery was downgraded, and in 1766 it burned down, although the churches survived. At the end of the 18th century, a bell tower was built, with the date 1530 or 1538 inscribed on its base. It is likely that the church was built at this time, as all construction work in the monastery was completed in 1542. The church had a chapel dedicated to John the Theologian.

An elementary school operated at the church, opened in 1867, along with a parish school in the village of Kamyshovka. The church's library contained 50 volumes of spiritual literature. The parish also included three other villages.

In 1938, the church was closed and looted. Before its closure, the rector was Priest Sergey Popov, and his son Pyotr Sergeyevich was a deacon.

The church was returned to the Church on April 22, 1991, by a decision of the Executive Committee of the Permishl District Council of People's Deputies. By 1993, floors were laid and windows were glazed in the lower part of the church. From 1994 to 1996, the roof of the altar, the square part, and part of the church near the bell tower were completed.
