Trinity Cathedral in Osa

Фото 1
The Holy Trinity Church in Osa was conceived in the late 19th century, and its design was developed by architect Alexander Bonaventurovich Turchievich. Construction of the cathedral began in 1902, when the rapid development of industry allowed the local community to invest significant funds into this project. The site for the cathedral was chosen on "Red Square." The Holy Trinity Cathedral is executed in the style of Russian Art Nouveau of the early 20th century, but also reflects elements of ancient Russian architecture of the 17th century. This combination of styles gives the cathedral a unique beauty. Architect Turchievich passed away in 1909, not living to see the completion of the construction.

By 1916, the cathedral was nearly finished, except for the bell tower. It occupies a central place in the ensemble of old Osa, and its domes are visible for dozens of kilometers. According to local residents, the bell tower had a belfry with small bells, the largest of which had a diameter of one and a half meters. The copper crosses shone in the sun, and the domes were blue. During services, the church was full of parishioners. The dimensions of the cathedral are impressive: length 53.35 m, width 46.3 m, height 44.18 m, dome diameter 11.4 m, and the building area is 1254.6 sq.m. The walls are adorned with stone patterns.

The cathedral was built from red bricks supplied by the factories of princes Golitsyn and Tupitsin. Heating was provided by heater stoves from Belgium. The Osipov family made a significant contribution to the construction. The frames were made by master Svetnikov, and the metal products by I. M. Peryatyagin. Icons for the iconostasis were painted by Moscow artist Shvarev, and the iconostasis itself was made by master A. S. Ryakin. The consecration of the cathedral took place on June 16, 1916. The first priests, Dmitry Ovechkin and Pyotr Alekseev, were shot during the Soviet era.

Services in the cathedral continued until 1927, after which it was closed by the decision of the Ural Regional Executive Committee in 1930. The building was used for various purposes: a local history museum, workshops, a bus station, and a gym. Fires and lack of supervision led to the destruction of the bell tower. From 1979 to 1984, partial restoration was carried out, but then the cathedral stood idle and fell into disrepair.

In 2000, discussions began about restoring the cathedral. In 2003, Bishop Irinarkh of Perm and Solikamsk blessed the restoration work. Roof repairs, installation of crosses, creation of the iconostasis, and utility connections were completed. The consecration of the cathedral took place on May 30, 2004, and it once again began to receive parishioners. In 2006-2007, work continued: foundation strengthening, window glazing, and dome replacement. The restoration of the church continues to this day.
