In the 1990s, most people who came from the USSR received Russian citizenship. During their time in Ethiopia, many of them were able to settle down, find work, or start their own businesses. The husbands of our compatriots arrived from the USSR with specialist diplomas, and many women also had higher education. Many of them visit the main local church.

The cathedral, known as "Menbere Tsebaot" or "Pure Altar," is the burial place of those who fought against the Italian occupation or accompanied the emperor in exile from 1936 to 1941. In the northern part of the cathedral are buried Emperor Haile Selassie I and Empress Menen Asfaw.

In the Heroes' Cemetery next to the cathedral rest participants of the Italo-Ethiopian War, including Mishka Babicheff, an Ethiopian military figure and diplomat of Russian descent.
