In the second half of the 19th century, a church was built in Yekaterinodar, now Krasnodar, in honor of the Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky. He was considered a protector of the homeland and a warrior, patronizing the Cossacks in their service.

The construction of the temple lasted 19 years, as the Cossacks financed it from their own funds, most of which went to rearmament and outfitting, while the remaining money was directed to the church's construction. The main architects were the Chernik brothers: the elder, Ivan Denisovich, an academician of architecture, teacher, and major general, and the younger, Elisei Denisovich, the military architect of the Kuban Cossack army.

Unfortunately, the beauty of the military church of Alexander Nevsky in Krasnodar can now only be judged by photographs and the memories of residents. It was a beautiful white stone cathedral in Byzantine style with five domes. The interior was adorned with a porcelain iconostasis with gilded stucco. Important events took place here, and it was visited by Russian emperors Alexander III and Nicholas II.

In the 1930s, during the active struggle against religion, spiritual educational institutions and places of worship were closed. The crosses were removed from the Alexander Nevsky church, and the bells were confiscated. A museum of atheism was placed on the first floor, and a cultural center on the second. In March 1932, a decision was made to demolish the church, which was carried out by May.
