St. Nicholas Cathedral (Kampala, Uganda)

Фото 1
The history of the cathedral in Kampala begins in 1919. It is quite modest here: the iconostasis is adorned with a minimal number of images, several icons are placed on the walls, and a few reproductions are displayed on stands at the entrance. Painted icons are rarely found due to their high cost, and only the iconostasis of the cathedral dedicated to St. Nicholas in Kampala is painted.

There is also an Old Believer community in Kampala. It was founded by priest Joachim Chiimba in 1991. However, it was only in 2012 that he and his parishioners turned to the Russian Orthodox Old Believer Church. Joachim sent a letter to the Metropolitan of Moscow and all Russia, the head of the Russian Orthodox Old Believer Church, Cornelius, requesting to join. In 2013, he was officially ordained and became a priest.
