The history of Orthodox churches in Yalutorovsk begins in the early 18th century, when the first church was built into the fortress wall. Historians believe it appeared in 1701, based on drawings from S.U. Remezov's book, which mentions only this church for that year. However, the need for a church was evident from the founding of the Yalutorovsk settlement, and it is possible that it existed as early as the 17th century. Stone construction in Yalutorovsk began with the erection of the Meeting Cathedral, which likely started in the 1760s-1770s. The cathedral was fully completed in 1837, when a solemn service was held in honor of the heir to the throne, Grand Duke Alexander Nikolaevich, future Alexander II, who was traveling through Siberia with poet V. Zhukovsky. In April 1877, the church was visited by famous travelers Alfred Brehm and Otto Finsh, who later described it in their historical work.

The Meeting Cathedral was renowned for its unique iconostasis, crafted in the Baroque style, presumably by the best masters from Moscow and St. Petersburg. Its height reached 11.3 meters, and the icons were arranged in three tiers. The paintings and icons of the upper tier were done in a Western European manner, which was unique for the Tobolsk diocese. The cathedral was associated with two churches, four chapels, and four prayer houses. By the early 20th century, the cathedral had deteriorated significantly, and in 1903, Bishop Anthony of Tobolsk and Siberia noted cracks in the vaults and arches. It was decided to carry out repairs, for which it was planned to raise 6,000 rubles in donations. The cathedral was closed in 1908, and the repairs were completed only before World War I in 1913-1914, after which services resumed.

Educational institutions operated under the Meeting Cathedral, such as the city school of the Ministry of Public Education, parish school, and others. In the late 1920s, the authorities decided to close the cathedral, the icons were removed, and the iconostasis was destroyed. The premises were turned into a youth club for the first Komsomol members of Yalutorovsk. In 1931, the cathedral was blown up, and its materials were used for the construction of a House of Culture and a bathhouse, as well as for paving streets. In 1990, archaeologists from TGU conducted excavations at the site of the cathedral, discovering a partially preserved foundation, remnants of the northern chapel, 10 burials, and a bell tongue. At that time, the idea of restoring the church arose, which became part of the preparations for the 350th anniversary of the founding of the fortress and settlement.

To implement plans for the reconstruction of the Meeting Cathedral and to foster spirituality and patriotism in Yalutorovsk, a city Board of Trustees was created, which included representatives of the authorities, business, and religious organizations. The head of the city, V.D. Zimnev, agreed to head the council, which also included priest Georgy Sannikov. On August 26, 2003, a cornerstone was laid at the site of the destroyed cathedral with a text about its revival. On October 15, 2006, Archbishop Dmitry of Tobolsk and Tyumen consecrated the site for the construction of the cathedral. By that time, significant work had been done: a chapel was installed, the central square of the city was named, and a cornerstone was laid.

On October 9, 2006, priest Georgy consecrated the first pile for the construction of the cathedral. In May-June 2007, processions took place around the resurrecting walls of the cathedral, and a stone from Jerusalem was laid in the altar area. On June 9, 2007, bells for the cathedral arrived in Yalutorovsk, the largest of which weighs 3.4 tons. On September 16, 2008, Archbishop Dmitry visited Yalutorovsk to familiarize himself with the progress of construction. On June 8, 2009, the first Divine Liturgy was held in the cathedral, and on July 23, 2009, the main cross was installed on the dome of the church.
