At the entrance to the district center, the village of Novospasskoye, stands the majestic red-brick Transfiguration Cathedral. This is a completely new structure, but its history dates back to the end of the 17th century. At that time, Emperor Peter I granted "untouched lands" to the nobleman Pyotr Solovtsov, who built the first two-story church on the site of the future village in 1700. This church was architecturally comparable to the capital's churches. In the 20th century, many churches were destroyed, including the Transfiguration Cathedral in the Syzran district.

After 65 years, in the early 1990s, the idea of building a new Orthodox church in Novospasskoye emerged. Due to rising groundwater levels and the swampy terrain, it was decided to build it not on the site of the previous church. A special commission chose a new location at the entrance to the village, which was later consecrated by a bishop. In 1995, Father Pavel Dmitrievich Kritinin arrived in the village, and services were initially held in a prayer house. On June 5, 1995, the first stone was laid for the foundation of the future church. This project became possible thanks to philanthropist Mikhail Gutseriev, president of OAO NK "Russneft". An experienced team of 21 workers from Kuznetsk in the Penza region was involved in the construction. Initially, the construction was handled by a Mobile Mechanized Column, and a Board of Trustees was created, headed by A. S. Vrazhnov. Later, the "Transfiguration Cathedral Fund" was established. The rector, Father Pavel, was involved in consultations and the design of the church. The construction was carried out using a community building method, and a charitable fundraising campaign collected about 11 million rubles. The church building is made of red facing bricks from Novokuybyshevsk, and the interior is reinforced with local silicate bricks.

The Novospasskoye Cathedral is a two-light square structure with five gilded domes, a small refectory, and a three-tiered bell tower. In the early 2000s, Saratov artist and icon painter Igor Germanovich Shimyakin created the iconostasis and icons based on an individual project. In 2002, seven bells weighing over half a ton were ordered in Voronezh and installed in 2004. On April 30, 2005, during Easter night, the first service was held in the new church, and on October 30, a solemn Great Consecration was conducted by Archbishop Prokl of Simbirsk and Melekess. Today, it is one of the largest churches in the Ulyanovsk region, accommodating up to 2,000 parishioners, and has the status of the Cathedral of the Simbirsk-Novospasskoye Diocese.
