The construction of a new cathedral in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God began in 1999 on the territory of the Holy Assumption Men's Monastery in Oryol. The church is designed as a large brick five-domed structure, styled after the architecture of the second half of the 17th century. After 12 years, on November 4, 2011, the day of the veneration of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, Archbishop Anthony of Oryol and Livny conducted the rite of the great consecration of the Kazan Cathedral. He was assisted by the secretary of the Oryol diocesan administration, Archimandrite Nektary (Seleznev), the dean of the city of Oryol, Priest Vladimir Nilov, and the brotherhood of the monastery. From that day on, the new church was named the Kazan Cathedral.
