In 1876, a new stone cathedral with one altar and five domes, built in the Russian style, was consecrated in the monastery in honor of the Icon of the Mother of God 'Troeruchitsa'. Construction began in 1861. The abbot Israel, the chief builder of the temple, managed to pay off the debts left by his predecessor, abbot Anastasius, and attracted new donors to complete the construction.

Alexey Vasilyevich Shishkin, an artist from the Academy of Arts, created 60 icons for the new cathedral, while the Tula merchant Chumakov painted three altar icons. The carved iconostasis and kiots were made by the master Konstantin Popov from Bolkhov. In 1895, the Moscow painter Vasily Kolupaev completed the interior painting of the cathedral in the 'Italian' style.
