The construction of the Annunciation Cathedral in Tyumen began on the orders of Peter I in 1700 and was funded by the state, completing in 1704. The cathedral was located on a high bank of the Tura River, opposite the City Duma building, now a local history museum, and served as a spiritual symbol of the city. It was unique in its exterior and interior decoration, rightfully considered a pearl of Siberia and the patriarch of white stone architecture. The outer walls of the cathedral were adorned with ribbed colored ceramic tiles, while the interior featured ceramic grapevines, symbolizing love for the Virgin Mary. In July 1932, during the persecution of the Church, the cathedral was blown up, and according to some reports, several Christians who defended it were killed.

In 1997, work began on the restoration of the cathedral in the "Deputatov" square in Tyumen. On December 19, 2001, a parish in honor of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary was recreated, and since then, akathists and processions have been regularly held there. On April 15, 2004, Archbishop Dmitry of Tobolsk and Tyumen consecrated a cross and a plot of land for the construction of the cathedral. On September 20, 2004, a small wooden church was erected on the site, and in November 2005, a decision was made to allocate land for the restoration of the cathedral for one year.

In October 2006, simultaneously with the discovery of the relics of Saint Philotheus Leshchinsky, Metropolitan of Tobolsk and Siberia, trustees appeared and permission for construction was obtained. On April 7, 2007, the consecration and driving of the first pile for the construction of the cathedral took place. On October 20, 2007, bricks from the foundation of the blown-up cathedral were laid in the altar wall.

On April 7, 2009, on the feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, after a solemn liturgy, in the presence of parishioners, builders, and residents of the neighborhoods, Archbishop Dmitry consecrated the crosses and the dome was raised on the bell tower. By June 2009, the construction of the cathedral building was nearly completed, the domes were ready for installation, but work was temporarily suspended.

On February 20, 2018, 13 bells for the cathedral were delivered to Tyumen, the largest weighing 3 tons, with a total weight of about 5 tons. The bells were cast in the Chelyabinsk region, and the construction of the cathedral is financed exclusively by benefactors.
