The Slavic Historical and Local Lore Museum is one of the largest municipal museums in Kuban. Founded in 1976, it has significantly expanded and now occupies three buildings that are monuments of Kuban architecture from the late 19th and 20th centuries, with a total area of 934 square meters. The exhibition area is 474 square meters. Initially, the museum was a public project and existed thanks to the enthusiasm of its founders, which led to it being awarded the title of a people's museum in 1982. In 1993, it received the status of a Municipal Cultural Institution. Currently, its collections hold over 30,000 exhibits.

The main task of the museum is to collect and preserve historical and cultural heritage. Each year, the collection is replenished with up to 1,000 new exhibits. The museum takes pride in its archaeological and ethnographic collections, as well as collections of rare books and religious artifacts. Special attention is drawn to the collections of ancient embroidered towels, numismatics, and banknotes.

With the opening of the art gallery, a collection of paintings, graphics, sculpture, and decorative applied arts began to form and is annually replenished, currently numbering about 4,500 items.

The most significant part of the collection is the memorial fund for war veterans, laborers, and honored citizens of the city. The museum's exhibitions detail the rich history of the Slavic district from ancient times to the present day. They include interesting exhibits and collections that tell about the settlement of the lands by Cossacks, the development of floodplains for rice cultivation, and the growth of collective and state farms. Rarities from the Great Patriotic War narrate the heroism of Slavs who fought at the front, worked in the rear, and participated in partisan groups.

The nature exhibition of the Eastern Azov region occupies over 200 square meters and includes collections and dioramas that reveal the features and ecological problems of the region's unique nature. The nature of our region is amazing, and often visitors, especially children, can only learn about local animals and birds here.

The museum actively engages in scientific and educational activities, serving up to 30,000 people annually, the majority of whom are schoolchildren and students. Up to 700 excursions are conducted each year.

In search of new forms of work with the population, the museum organizes walking and car excursions around the city, as well as events for the museum's 'Birthday.' More than 60 exhibitions are held annually, of which up to 45 are from its own collections. This allows residents to constantly become acquainted with rare and unique exhibits reflecting historical events from different periods, including anniversary dates of the district, region, and country. The exhibitions of the art gallery showcase the work of artists and masters of decorative applied arts from Kuban.
