The local history museum is located in the central square of Slavgorod, next to the administration, the culture and recreation park, as well as a memorial dedicated to the Great Patriotic War. While walking along the alley, one can see a monument to Pyotr Stolypin, who played a significant role in the development of Slavgorod, and a sign established in honor of the city's centenary.

In addition to the exhibits stored in the museum's funds, retro cars are displayed outside: the M-20V "Victory," produced in 1955, and a "KhTZ" tractor, manufactured from 1931 to 1937.

The local history museum in Slavgorod is one of the most popular cultural spots for tourists. It was founded in 1958 by a city resident and veteran of the Great Patriotic War, Vladimir Zhemerov. While working on the railway, he began collecting materials about the history of his hometown and later published a study on the history of Slavgorod and the surrounding area, which was published three times. He also wrote a book about the history of the railway in his small homeland and other works.

Initially, the museum was located in a small room of the Slavgorod City Duma building. Over time, its exhibits expanded, and by the late 1970s, the museum moved to the historic building of the merchant Selyutin's trading office, built in the early 20th century, where it remains today.

Today, the Slavgorod City Local History Museum features over 25,000 exhibits. Special attention is given to the heroism of the Slavgorod residents during the Great Patriotic War: awards, historical documents, and front-line letters are displayed here. Visitors can also see exhibits collected by the regional expedition "Memory Watch": a sapper shovel, fragments of a mug and grenades, cartridge casings, a rifle magazine, and bullets from a machine gun.

Visitors can learn about the history of the Altai Chemical Plant named after Vereshchagin in Yarovoe, the lifestyle of ethnic Germans, Russian peasants, and other peoples who lived together. Special attention is paid to the contribution of railway workers to the development of Slavgorod.

Among the unique exhibits are a film camera "MKM," a mechanical razor "Sputnik 3," watches "Yantar" and "Raketa," an ultrasonic signaler "Fikus-MP," radios "Alpinist" and "Surprise," a loudspeaker "Ob" and much more. All these items were donated to the museum by the residents of Slavgorod.

To highlight the local environment, the museum has created a special department that tells about local plants, animals, and fish. An exhibition hall has been arranged at the museum featuring works by artists and photographers from the city and Altai.

In the early 2000s, an archaeology hall was opened, dedicated to finds in the Altai Territory. The museum plays an important role in the cultural life of the city, hosting over three hundred events a year, including courage lessons, memorial days, meetings with famous people, and literary-musical evenings. Key events include city and district tours.

Museum staff are also involved in forming a source base for scientific research, preparing presentations and historical films, and creating printed materials for educational purposes. The museum actively works with veterans and the patriotic movement, hosting nearly two dozen veteran organizations. This approach makes the museum relevant for all generations. More than 15,000 people visit it annually. The museum also participates in the international event "Museum Night."

Currently, the museum is actively preparing for the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, organizing a series of thematic lessons "Slavgorod Residents in Battles Against Fascism" and meetings "In Memory of Generations."
