The sculptural composition "Merchant and His Cat" has long become one of the symbols of Bolshaya Sadovaya Street in Rostov-on-Don, attracting the attention of both locals and tourists. Passersby often stop here to take photos, and many even sit on the bronze cat or rub its ear. Today, it is hard to imagine a tourist who, having visited Bolshaya Sadovaya, has not captured this monument.

The composition was unveiled in 2006 and created by sculptor Dmitry Lyndin. Although the monument has stood on Bolshaya Sadovaya for only 14 years, it seems like it has been here for an eternity. The sculpture depicts a bearded and sturdy merchant with a box on his shoulder, on which is written: "Trade righteously, and you will profit!" Next to the merchant is a cat.

Rostov-on-Don is known as a major industrial, transport, and trade center in southern Russia. Trade in its markets has always thrived, which is why the monument to the merchant, specifically the box merchant, has become one of the symbols of the city. The box merchant was a trader in Russia who carried various goods in special boxes, from beads and threads to fabrics and books.
