The sculptural composition 'Don-Batюшка' was installed on the embankment of Rostov in 2013, when the decision was made to decorate this popular leisure spot for residents with various thematic sculptures.
The main symbol of the city is undoubtedly the Don River, which the Cossacks have long called Don-Batюшка. This inspired the creation of the monument and its name, which quickly won the affection of the people.
The monument is entirely made of bronze, created by sculptor Isaev and architect Dvornikov. The composition features the figure of a strong man sitting in a relaxed pose. In one hand, he holds a scepter, a symbol of power, while the other hand rests on the hilt of a Cossack saber. He wears a Cossack hat on his head, expensive boots on his feet, and a graceful dagger at his waist. The sculpture resembles the image of the legendary Cossack ataman Ermak and creates the impression of meeting a rightful master of the Don region.
The monument is very popular among tourists and locals, as evidenced by the numerous shiny parts of the sculpture that many people try to rub for good luck while taking photos.
