Фото 1
In Yoshkar-Ola, you can see an unusual sculptural composition called 'Yoshkin Cat'. This monument, created in 2011, amazes and delights passersby. Despite its amusing name, the monument has a deep meaning. It depicts a cat, resting on a street bench with a satisfied expression on its face. Next to it lies the newspaper 'Naked Truth' and a fish skeleton. The letter 'Ё' in the name symbolizes the first letter of the capital of the Mari El Republic, and the image of the cat resonates with the popular expression 'Yoshkin Cat!'. Interestingly, locals often refer to their city as Yoshka.

This satisfied cat is located on a bench in the park near the Mari State University. The sculpture, cast in bronze, weighs 150 kg and was created by sculptors Sergey Yandubaev, Anatoly Shirnin, and Alexey Shilov.

Tourists happily take photos with this cat. In addition to cute snapshots, one can turn to the bronze kitty for wish fulfillment. To make a wish come true, it is advised to hold the cat by its back paw, rub its nose, and whisper in its ear. For confidence, you can do everything at once, and then the kitty definitely won't refuse. In a short time, this charming character has become a favorite among the townspeople and one of the main attractions of the Mari region.

On Arkhangelskaya Sloboda Street, near the Square of the Blessed Virgin Mary, there is Yoshkin Cat's friend, the composition 'Yoshkin Cat'. On a small elevation sits an elegant cat, while next to it lies a cat from which a mouse is running away.
