In May, a monument to the heroine of Chekhov's story "The Lady with the Dog" was installed on the waterfront of Gelendzhik. This romantic image, created by Chekhov, is popular among sculptors in Russia. Bronze or marble sculptures of ladies with dogs can be found in Astrakhan, Penza, the Moscow region, Khabarovsk, and Yalta.

The author of the Gelendzhik sculpture is local sculptor Valery Mokhov, who spent about three months creating it.

According to the project's creators, the theme of resort romances is particularly relevant for Gelendzhik. The story of how a fleeting vacation romance turns into true love could happen not only in Yalta, as in Chekhov's tale, but also at this resort in the Krasnodar region.

However, deviations from the original story are not limited to a change of setting. For example, instead of Chekhov's spitz, the Gelendzhik lady, dressed in a 19th-century outfit, holds a dog of indeterminate breed in her arms, which bears traits of various dogs.
