The Sibai Historical and Local Lore Museum is a municipal institution of culture and art, located in the city of Sibai at 45 Gornikov Avenue.

In 1959, local historian F. V. Papkov gathered extensive material on the history of the region. Thanks to his initiative and the help of volunteers such as Z. V. Smirnova, Sh. M. Sharipov, B. M. Magadeev, and the Muzipov couple, it was decided to create a museum for the city's schoolchildren. The opening took place on March 24, 1959, and the museum was located in the office of the Sibai City Committee of the Komsomol, where the first excursions on history, biology, and geography were conducted.

In 1966, the museum was closed, and its exhibits were stored at the Sibai boarding school. Later, the museum resumed operations in the building of the educational and consulting point of the Magnitogorsk Mining and Metallurgical Combine, with R. A. Nagayev as the chairman of the museum council.

Since 1970, the collection of exhibits was conducted on a voluntary basis. In 1976, the museum was closed again, and the exhibits were transferred to the local history circle of the House of Pioneers, now the Center for Children's Creativity.

In 1991, significant changes occurred: the museum became part of the state museum network of Bashkortostan as a branch of the National Museum of the Republic of Bashkortostan. Vladimir Alexandrovich Silaev became the director, who made efforts to develop the museum. In 1993, the museum received its own premises covering 1,172.7 square meters.

On October 10, 2000, the presentation of the new museum building took place, marking the beginning of a scientific approach to museum work in the city. The museum is gaining recognition among residents and guests of the city in the cultural and educational sphere.

The core of the museum's activities consists of its collections, which numbered over 12,700 items as of January 2020. Based on these, six exhibition halls were created: "Flora and Fauna of the Ural Region," "Archaeology and Ethnography," "Pre-War History," "Combat Glory," "Bashkir Copper-Zinc Combine," and "Information Hall."

The museum employs 10 staff members, of whom 6 are scientific. The museum continues to engage in the preservation, research, and popularization of the natural and cultural heritage of the region.

The priority areas of the museum's work are scientific research in the fields of natural and humanitarian sciences, ethnography, history, and monument studies.

The city’s Local History Society and a scientific and methodological council operate at the museum. Since 2012, the museum, in collaboration with the Sibai Institute of Bashkir State University, has been conducting a republican competition for research works titled "Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of the Republic of Bashkortostan."

Since 2015, the museum has been publishing "Local History Notes of the Sibai Museum."

The museum participates in the "Museum in City N" competition among municipal museums as part of the international festival "Intermuseum," and is a member of the Union of Museums of Russia and the Interregional Public Organization "Council of Museums of the Volga Federal District."
