The Shchigrovsky Local History Museum was opened by the decision of the city executive committee. It is located in a building constructed in 1907 by Nikolai Lvovich Markov, a deputy of the State Duma of the III and IV convocations and one of the leaders of the monarchist party in Russia. This building was transferred to the district zemstvo administration for housing a library named after his brother, the writer and prominent zemstvo figure Evgeny Lvovich Markov.

In 1990, the museum was awarded the title of "People's," and in 2006 it became a branch of the Kursk Regional Local History Museum.

The museum's collections number about 15,000 items, and its exhibition area is 131 square meters.

The museum's exhibition covers the history of the Shchigrovsky land from the mid-17th century to the present day.

Particular attention is given to the development of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly. In 1921, drilling work began 7 km from Shchigry, near the village of Lozovka, and on April 7, 1923, the first core of iron ore was raised from a depth of 163 meters.

The exhibition features materials about the establishment of the first tractor column in the RSFSR in 1928, as well as the construction and launch of the largest phosphorite plant in the country in 1930.

The Shchigrovsky land is associated with the names of such notable figures as writers I.S. Turgenev, E.L. Markov, A.P. Gaidar, poet A.A. Fet, artist V.G. Shvarts, and scientists I.I. Ivanov, D.I. Zhuravsky, S.P. Nepobedimy.

The museum is visited by about 11,500 people annually.
