The Sharlyk District Historical and Local Lore Museum was founded in 1969 with the active participation of Grigory Nikolaevich Kuleshov. Over its existence, the museum has changed its location several times. It is currently located on the first floor of a modern cultural and leisure center.

The museum's exhibitions are located in three halls and are united by themes: "The History of Sharlyk until the Early 20th Century," "The Establishment of Soviet Power in the Region, Participation in the Great Patriotic War, and Local Heroes," "History and Modernity. People Who Are the Pride of Our District."

The main collection of the museum consists of 2,057 exhibits. One of the key areas of work is the continuous replenishment of the collection, for which the museum collaborates with various organizations in the district.

The museum actively collects materials about outstanding residents of the Sharlyk District who contributed to history, as well as conducts local studies.

The museum's activities are closely linked to the life of the village and the district. An important task is to instill a sense of patriotism and love for one's small homeland in the youth. Throughout the year, the museum organizes events dedicated to significant dates in Russian and local history. Thematic exhibitions are held, such as "Sharlyk in the Past," "Meeting Pokrov with a Down Scarf," "The Craftsmanship of Kind Hands," "Sharlyk in Faces," "Local Heroes," "Local Writers," "Day of Unity and Accord," and others.

Excursion-lectures, portrait evenings, museum actions, and lessons of courage are dedicated to the feats of outstanding locals. The excursions "On the Roads of War" based on museum materials leave no one indifferent, as almost every family has memories of the difficult years of 1941-1945. Frontline letters convey the atmosphere of wartime, sharing thoughts and feelings, and are not only sources of information but also unique exhibits.

For guests of Sharlyk, excursions along the Alley of Heroes are interesting, where they learn about the feats of ten Heroes of the Soviet Union and the labor achievements of three Heroes of Socialist Labor. The land of Sharlyk is renowned as the birthplace of heroes.
