The Satkinsky Local History Museum was founded in 1957 and was originally located in the building of the former Nikolskaya Church. In 1990, after the building was transferred to the believers, the museum's exhibits were moved to the building of the former Trinity Church, built in 1785 and reconstructed in the 1930s.

Today, the museum houses more than 25,000 exhibits. Among the most valuable collections are minerals, archaeological and paleontological finds, clocks and Russian samovars from the 13th and 19th centuries, icons, a collection of towels, as well as items made of birch bark and bast. Of particular scientific value are the teeth and tusks of a mammoth, the skull and tooth of a woolly rhinoceros, and fossils of marine animals. The rare book collection includes old printed editions from the 17th and 19th centuries, various reference books, periodicals, and other books from different years. The dish collection includes porcelain and faience from Russian factories of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as souvenirs and dishes produced locally.

The museum is visited by more than 5,500 people annually. Permanent exhibitions in the "Nature" and "History" departments are available to visitors, as well as about 10 exhibitions from the museum's funds, private collections, and other museums. The exhibitions are accompanied by master classes, meetings with masters of decorative and applied arts, artists, veterans, and others. Every year, a scientific local history conference is held, gathering researchers from all over the Chelyabinsk region. The museum publishes various printed materials, fulfills genealogical requests, conducts competitions and events, and implements innovative projects. Museum staff organize excursions around the city and historical and cultural sites in the region and area.
