One of the largest paintings in the world, "The Procession of Elephants. The Arrival of the Prince of Wales in Jaipur in 1876," created by Russian artist Vasily Vereshchagin, is on display for the public at the Victoria Memorial Museum in Kolkata.

In various sources, this work by Vereshchagin is referred to as the second, third, or even the largest painting in the world. The museum director noted: "We prefer to say that it is one of the largest oil paintings on canvas in the world."

Vereshchagin traveled to India twice, which inspired him to create his famous series of paintings. He witnessed the arrival of the heir to the British throne in Jaipur, which prompted him to paint this canvas, completed in 1879. In 1898, the painting was sold after the artist's tour in the USA and changed several owners. It was first acquired by department store owner Edward Mally from New Haven, then by the Viceroy of India Lord Curzon, and later it ended up with the Maharaja of Jaipur, who donated it to the museum in Kolkata.
