In 1926, Russian-speaking residents of Baltimore decided to create their own cemetery. They purchased about 50 acres of land in Anne Arundel County. This area was intended for both burials and picnics away from the hustle and bustle of the city. In 1939, the Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul was built, where Divine Liturgies were held on Sundays when families gathered for picnics. In 1940, the chapel received a bell as a gift, which still rings during services and funerals.

In 1947, Baltimore needed a new modern airport. For this, 3000 acres of land in Anne Arundel County, located along the highway between Baltimore and Washington, were chosen. The cemetery of the Holy Trinity Church was on this territory, and the search for a new location began. A 71-acre estate was found in Howard County, where a cathedral was planned in the 1920s with picturesque plantings of trees and shrubs. This place became known as the Cathedral Gardens. The transfer of graves from Anne Arundel County to Howard County took about 18 months. The city authorities agreed to sell the chapel for a symbolic one dollar, and it was also moved to the Cathedral Gardens.

Behind the open area in front of the chapel are picnic spots and a gardener's house. Two pavilions for picnics were built near the old pump house, around which a road runs. Between the picnic area and the open-air cathedral, a playground is equipped. Roads have been laid for convenience of movement around the territory.

In the 1960s, due to the construction of Interstate 95, the cemetery lost 15 acres of land. The new road replaced Lawyers Hill Road and came closer to the cemetery. The old entrance to the cemetery is still visible on Lawyers Hill Road.
